Frequently asked questions

What people ask us most about DiviCuenta. Still wondering about something? Write to privacidad@divicuenta.com.

How do I split a restaurant bill with DiviCuenta?

Snap the receipt, check the items, add the tip and discounts, tap who had what and share the result on WhatsApp. Everyone gets a link with their part and who to pay.

Is DiviCuenta free?

Yes. Splitting bills, sharing them and creating an account are free.

Do I have to sign up or install anything?

No. DiviCuenta runs in your phone's or computer's browser. If you like, add it to your home screen and it opens like an app. An account is optional: it saves your splits and opens them on another phone.

Do my friends need the app?

No. They get a link on WhatsApp and see their part in the browser: what they owe, what they had and who to pay.

How is the tip worked out?

On the bill after discounts, as a percentage or a fixed amount. It's shared by what each person had, and discounts by law never apply to it.

How much do people usually tip?

It depends on the country and the place; at many restaurants, around 10% of the bill. In DiviCuenta you pick a percentage or a fixed amount, and it's worked out on the discounted bill.

What are discounts by law?

In some countries, paying by card refunds part of a tax. When it applies, DiviCuenta takes it from the card slip or works it out, and takes it off the bill, never the tip.

What happens to the receipt photos?

DiviCuenta doesn't keep the photos. How they're read and who sees them is in the privacy policy.

Can I split it equally?

Yes. Pick equal parts or item by item. For rent, a gift or groceries, just type the total and how many people.

What if several people paid?

Enter what each person put in and DiviCuenta tells you who sends what to whom, in as few transfers as possible.

How do I split a trip's costs with friends?

With a shared expense: open one for the trip, invite the others with a link and everyone adds the receipts they paid. When you close it, the total is split equally and you see who sends what to whom. Joining takes an account with email or Google; whoever opened it can add someone who won't use the app by name. Everyone in it sees every receipt, and anyone with the link can join, so share it only with the group.

Which currency does it use?

The receipt's. If the app doesn't recognize it, you pick it while checking the items.

Can I open my splits on another phone?

Yes, with an account. Sign in with a link to your email or with Google, and your splits show up on any phone, just as you left them.

How do I delete my data?

From “Your account” you download everything it holds as a file and delete the account with what it holds; if you accepted usage statistics, only amounts and quantities stay from its receipts, with no names. Without an account, removing a split from your recent ones deletes its link too.

Next time, you split the bill.

Open DiviCuenta on your phone, snap the receipt, done.
